Youth in Agricultural

In the heart of Haiti, a grassroots organization, led by Jonel Joseph, founder of AFPEE, has emerged with a mission to empower youth through agriculture. Acknowledging the nation’s struggles with poverty and food insecurity, Jonel’s vision transcends mere education. This initiative confronts poverty and hunger head-on by imparting farming skills within schools and nurturing entrepreneurship through on-site gardens. Its aim is to combat food insecurity in Haiti and establish sustainable solutions by instilling in the youth a passion for and proficiency in agriculture. In September 2019, Jonel began volunteering at seven schools in Hinche, focusing on environmental initiatives in the most impoverished areas where his dedication lies, including schools and churches.

Our five-year program aims to help villagers identify most vulnerable children and develop care plans for them, establishes agricultural co-ops to produce income for these children’s families, and changes the economy of the entire village.

Challenges include limited funding, political instability, and infrastructure constraints. Cultural perceptions of agriculture also need addressing.

Solutions involve forming partnerships for funding and resources, community engagement, infrastructure improvements, and comprehensive training for educators and students. Our mission is to combat poverty and hunger sustainably by integrating agriculture into education. Despite challenges, we’re committed to empowering Haitian youth.

Long-Term Impact
