Dr. Emiel T. Barrett, CMDCM (Ret), a remarkable individual with a journey spanning from the vibrant landscapes of Jamaica to the bustling streets of Queens, NY, embarked on his path towards service and leadership in the United States Navy.

Born and raised in Jamaica, Emiel’s life took a significant turn when he migrated to Queens, NY. It was there that he found his calling to serve his adopted country. In 1996, he made the pivotal decision to enlist in the Navy, setting the stage for a distinguished career.

Emiel commenced his naval journey at the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL, undergoing rigorous basic training before delving into the logistics field in Meridian, MS. With his foundational training complete, he eagerly embraced his first assignment, ready to embark on a voyage of service and exploration.

Throughout his naval tenure, Emiel traversed the seas, leaving an indelible mark on each vessel he served aboard. From the Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron Fifteen (HM-15) to the USS SIMPSON (FFG-56), he showcased his expertise and dedication. His deployments aboard the USS INCHON (MCS-12), USS DENVER (LPD-9), USS KEARSARGE (LHD-3), and USS CLEVELAND (LPD-7) saw him navigating through diverse environments, participating in critical operations across the globe.

Not confined to the seas alone, Emiel’s contributions extended to pivotal shore assignments, showcasing his versatility and leadership acumen. From the Commander, Naval Reserve Forces in New Orleans, LA, to the Aviation Supply Department in Atlanta, GA, he left an enduring impact wherever he served.

However, it was his role as the Senior Enlisted Leader for J-4 Logistics in Kabul, Afghanistan, during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, that truly defined his legacy. Leading the Logistics Embedded Training Team, Emiel spearheaded efforts to train and support the Afghan National Police, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to mission success and the welfare of others.

Emiel’s thirst for knowledge paralleled his dedication to service. He pursued higher education relentlessly, earning degrees from prestigious institutions such as Northwood University, Texas A&M University-Commerce, and the University of New England. His academic pursuits complemented his practical experience, equipping him with a comprehensive skill set essential for leadership.

On June 2, 2017, Dr. Emiel Barrett bid farewell to his illustrious naval career, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, resilience, and unwavering dedication. Yet, his journey did not culminate with retirement. Beyond the uniform, Emiel continued to enrich his life with hobbies like hiking and reading, embracing new adventures with the same vigor that defined his military service.
